Supporting Information and Local Rules

The Blaydon Race is organised by Blaydon Harrier & Athletics Club and is conducted in accordance with the UK Athletics (UKA) Rules for Competition in force at the time of the Race.

For the purposes of this document:

  • Race Organiser means Blaydon Harrier & Athletics Club.

  • Race means The Blaydon Race.

  • Applicant means an individual whose application to compete in the Race has not yet been accepted.

  • Competitor means an individual whose application to compete in the Race has been accepted.

Public Liability Insurance is held by Blaydon Harrier & Athletics Club in accordance with applicable UKA requirements.

Course and Road Safety

The Blaydon Race takes place on roads and unmade paths that are normally used by motor vehicles and pedestrians. Competitors must be aware of the potential hazards associated with road running and take appropriate action to avoid danger where necessary.

Competitors should also be aware that sections of the course may be wet, uneven or slippery, particularly in adverse weather conditions.

The Blaydon Race is a competitive running race. The Race Organiser will not accept entries from individuals who intend to walk the course or who intend to treat the event as a fun run.

Entry

The Race Organiser reserves the right to refuse an Applicant's entry. Where an application is refused, the Race Organiser will provide the Applicant with the reason or reasons for the refusal, subject to any applicable legal restrictions.

The Race is open to Competitors who are 16 years of age or older on the day of the Race.

Time Limit

The Race has a two-hour time limit.

Any Competitor who has not completed the Race within the permitted time must discontinue participation when instructed to do so by a Race Official.

Instructions and Conduct

Competitors must comply with all reasonable instructions given by Race Officials or uniformed Police officers.

Failure to comply with the Race Rules, these Local Rules, or the reasonable instructions of a Race Official or uniformed Police officer may result in disqualification, removal from the official results and, where applicable, loss of prize money.

A breach of the Race Rules or these Terms and Conditions may also result in exclusion from future events organised or controlled by The Blaydon Race.

Accessibility

The course is unsuitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs.

The Blaydon Race will, where it is reasonable and practicable to do so, make reasonable adjustments to enable participation. Applicants requiring an adjustment should notify the Race Organiser when applying to compete. Notification may be made through the contact form on the Race website.

Pets

Pets may not accompany Competitors during the Race and are not permitted on the Race course.

Competitor Fitness and Responsibility

Competitors must satisfy themselves that they are physically and mentally capable of completing the Race safely before starting.

Any Competitor who becomes unwell or otherwise feels unable to continue safely must withdraw from the Race and, where appropriate, seek assistance from a Race Official or medical personnel.

Replacement Race Packs

A Competitor requiring a replacement Race Pack may be charged a fee of up to £6. Any applicable fee must be paid in advance.

Data Protection

The Blaydon Race will comply with its obligations under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the Data Protection Act 2018 and other applicable data-protection legislation.

Personal and sensitive data will only be collected, processed and retained where there is a lawful basis for doing so and to the extent permitted by applicable legislation.

Terms and Conditions

By accepting these Local Rules and Terms and Conditions, the Competitor acknowledges and agrees to comply with the following policies of The Blaydon Race:

Changes to the Race

The Race Organiser reserves the right to make reasonable changes, amendments or clarifications to the Race, its arrangements, Local Rules or Terms and Conditions where necessary.

The Race Organiser will endeavour to notify Competitors of any significant changes before the Race. Any such changes will be binding on all Competitors.

Decisions of the Race Organiser

Competitors are bound by the Race Organiser's reasonable interpretation of, and decisions made under, these Local Rules and Terms and Conditions.

Subject to applicable law, the decision of the Race Organiser in relation to the operation and conduct of the Race is final.

Entry Fees and Cancellation

Entry fees are non-refundable and non-transferable, except where a refund or transfer is expressly provided for under the Race Organiser's policies or applicable law.

If the Race is cancelled, the Race Organiser will not be responsible for any additional costs or expenses incurred by a Competitor as a result of the cancellation, subject to any rights the Competitor may have under applicable law.

Liability

Competitors participate in the Blaydon Race at their own risk and acknowledge the inherent risks associated with participating in a competitive road race.

To the extent permitted by law, the Blaydon Race and the Race Organiser accept no liability for injury, harm, loss, damage or costs arising from participation in the Race, except where such liability cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.

Nothing in these Terms and Conditions excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.

Race Entries and Transfers

Only the individual who purchased the Race entry may use that entry, unless the entry has been transferred through the Race Organiser's official transfer process.

Unauthorised transfer, sale, assignment or use of a Race entry may result in the original entrant and/or the unauthorised recipient being prohibited from participating in The Blaydon Race and potentially future events.

Disqualification

Failure to comply with the Race Rules, these Local Rules, these Terms and Conditions, or the reasonable instructions of a Race Official or uniformed Police officer may result in:

  • disqualification from the Race;

  • removal from the official results;

  • loss of any prize money or award;

  • removal from the Race course; and/or

  • exclusion from future events organised or controlled by The Blaydon Race.

The Race Organiser reserves the right to take such action where it reasonably considers it necessary to protect the integrity, safety or proper operation of the Race.
